The significance of Christmas and Jesus is not that a baby was supposably born in a manger, cause there was no room in the inn, or that his parents believed an angel or that there were cute little sheep that came to visit, none of these were the reason why Jesus was called the ‘Son of God’. This story of his birth has been turned into a lovely, child friendly, Sunday afternoon special. In all honesty, that baby would have been a relatively normal baby, it would have spat up, screamed, woke to feed throughout the night and pooped its pants. His birth was really not that significant, but rather what he did with his life was.

Running has taught me how important time away is, the time to be honest with God. To bare everything and let your soul sing out.

"I want to see jellyfish, jellyfish swimming through honey.” 

God smashed the window. God didn’t just break in, this felt like an armed robbery. 

How everything, everything matters
How each choice of each moment
Supports or suppresses the creation
Of the kin-dom of God

I am being challenged to honour the intent of the person who has differences of opinion to me and not to be side-tracked from my service to God by whether I think someone else is serving correctly.

Can you imagine if Jesus said “Sorry boys, but there are only 13 of us and it’s a pretty tough world out there, we are simply too small to accomplish anything”? He could have. No one would have blamed him either with the pressure he was under. But, he believed.

That moment gave me a glimpse into the fierceness with which our God must love God's creation.

Slowing down, engaging, daily, in spiritual practices and paying attention to where God is leading frees us for the journey. Letting go is a practice to experience in our personal, spiritual lives and in the experience of our congregations. Letting go allows the unfolding adventure with God to have complete space.
