Mentoring – We Learn From Each Other

The Mentoring and Coaching Team has been working hard to create opportunities to grow skills in those undertaking leadership roles and other responsibilities. As we look around the members and friends of Community of Christ, we see such a diversity of people with the most amazing skills and talents. The Mentoring and Coaching Team wishes to create a pathway to connect those who have the “know how” and “experience” with the people who have the desire to do better and would benefit from help to achieve their goals.

There are many aspects of leadership and responsibility that could be enhanced by coaching and mentoring: communication, writing articles, administration, running meetings, specific priesthood functions, technical skills on computer, running camps or retreats, catering for events, etc. The skills and knowledge required to run many of our programs is quite extensive.

Over the last 12 months, the Mentoring and Coaching Team have been working diligently to create a framework to help leaders and future leaders upskill by partnering them with a mentor or coach with a specific skill set. We have started by creating a database to capture our talent bank. This will assist us in matching a person who is willing to help coach with a person who is seeking assistance. We are also putting together a framework for the mentoring relationships to guide mentors/coaches and those receiving support and guidance. This initiative will be called Mentoring Partnerships: Pathways to the Future.

At Tiona Reunion Camp 2025, there will be opportunity in one of the Go Deeper afternoon sessions to hear first-hand from some of the Mentoring and Coaching team about how this opportunity will be implemented in 2026 and how you may be able to contribute or benefit.
