A Weekend of Connection at Victoria Community Camp

Reflection from Lorraine Kubeil:

I am so grateful that I was able to attend Community Camp this year in a place that has so many memories of the dedication and time spent in developing this beautiful place and the fact that we are still able to meet and share together.

Many old friendships renewed and many new ones made. I so enjoyed the presence of so many young children, to see their enthusiasm in their classes, in helping at meal times and being able to roam the grounds and run down to the playground knowing that it was a safe place for them.

Years ago, I could not see the Church continuing. But at this camp, the leadership, the spiritual direction was so evident, and so many seeking and striving to live fulfilling lives was uplifting, and I came away feeling excited about the future.

Friendships, laughter, a listening ear, concern for others, classes, games, services--all put together to make an inspiring weekend of renewal and reawakening.

God bless,
Lorraine

Reflection from Nancy:

This was my first time attending the Kallara retreat. I felt the itinerary allowed a lovely balance between fun, thought provoking and spiritual activities as well as the space to unwind from a busy city routine to reflect inward. I loved exploring the grounds, absorbing and connecting into the incredible spiritual energy that is so present at Kallara.

The community was so welcoming, and with no pressure I could flow at my own pace, enjoying conversation with new faces and continued connection with familiar ones. Special moments were shared with new friend who initiated a friendly chat and was open with their testimony and experiences at Kallara. I had such great fun with members who offered an historical driving tour of the area. I thoroughly enjoyed the company and a good belly laugh.

I had a memorable moment in nature on my first morning walk. I was welcomed with an incredible display of about twenty or more butterflies that poured out of a nearby shrub, circling me in an intertwined dance towards the sky. If that was not exciting enough, I was then met with a family of kangaroos insisting on hopping alongside me up the hill and disappearing behind the water tanks.

I came with an open mind and heart, and I left with a greater heart expansion and renewed spirit. I have witnessed the richness that the Kallara retreat has to offer. I am so grateful that I was greeted with open arms. I anticipate that I will return in the future.

Reflection from Hannah Ghazarian (grade 3):

My favourite part of camp was playing at the playground with my friends and my cousins. It was really fun! I also loved Kass’s class where we painted our feet and washed our feet. My favourite campfire song was “Old Mother Leary,” and it was so funny to sing together. I had the best time at camp and I can’t wait to see my friends again at Kallara for Kids Camp!

Reflection from Allister Loughran:

Driving through the gates at Kallara felt like coming home to a place that has been part of my life for many years.

Being there again reminded me how deeply I value this community. It’s a place where I feel known and loved, and where the conversations are honest and meaningful. I had missed that, and it was good to find it again. This time was especially meaningful because I was able to share it with my kids. Watching them enjoy the space, the people, and the sense of community brought me real joy.

Kallara is a special place, filled with special people. For me, it reflects the heart of what Community of Christ has meant throughout my life.
