Reflecting God's Light by Calee Loughran

I was so blessed to attend Victoria Kids Camp as a volunteer last week, and I left feeling uplifted, hopeful, and filled to the brim with joy (and maybe a little exhaustion!). What stayed with me most were the many small, genuine moments where kindness and care came so naturally to the kids.

I saw roommates gently supporting each other at bedtime when the dark or homesickness crept in. I saw older campers step in with encouragement and practical help when activities became challenging for younger campers. I saw kids help one another up without hesitation when someone fell during recreation. I watched as one of the youngest campers chose to spend their free time carefully writing “warm fuzzy” notes to others even after everyone else had run off to play.

I watched the Junior Leaders (youth volunteers) be fully engaged with the kids in both organised activities and free time. In doing so, they modelled care and connection, making each child feel seen and valued. And I watched Kass Unger (child at heart) meet every moment—kitchen duty, scraped knees, competitive squabbles, etc.—with patience, compassion, and a sense of fun. Kass leads with a thoughtful intentionality that meets each child where they are, creating space for them to fully be themselves and to grow in confidence, faith, and the assurance that they are loved and never alone.

Throughout the camp, I felt a deep sense of gratitude and wonder. Time and time again, these kids reflected God’s light in ways that were simple, sincere, and quietly powerful.

In that spirit, I invite you to read Kass’s reflection on Kids Camp below. Then continue on through this issue to discover a new job posting for the Australia Mission Centre, an update on Saints Care, stories of gatherings across Australia, and another postcard message from our Field 4 Apostles. May you carry into this week the joy, openness, and generosity of spirit we so often see in children, and share it freely with those around you.
