Nine children in Victoria are currently participating in an Of Water and Spirit class facilitated by Kass Unger and Emma Ghazarian. Of Water and Spirit introduces young people to the life of discipleship and helps them explore what it means to be part of Community of Christ.
For this session, the class is being offered in a new format. Kids are completing the twelve lessons through a six-week intensive program, gathering on Zoom on Fridays and in person on Sundays at the Frankston congregation.
Throughout the program, participants have explored a wide range of topics, including God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, becoming familiar with the Bible and how to navigate the scriptures, learning about the twelve disciples, exploring the sacraments, and beginning to discover the Enduring Principles that shape Community of Christ. The focus is creating space for young people to ask questions, grow in faith, and deepen their understanding of discipleship and the church.
One of the joys of the program has been seeing the relationships develop among the kids. Kass and Emma have helped to create a welcoming and engaging environment where everyone feels comfortable learning alongside one another, both online and in person (not always an easy task, especially on Zoom with nine kids under the age of 12!). The classes have been filled with thoughtful questions, lively discussion, and plenty of fun.
As the group looks ahead to the final weeks of the program, we invite the wider church to hold these children, their families, and the facilitators in prayer. May this time continue to nurture their faith, deepen their relationship with God, and strengthen their sense of belonging within the Community of Christ.
