Recently, I had the pleasure of attending a Sunset Reflections service at the Green Cathedral, led by Wendy Ballard. As the light softened over the water and the evening settled into stillness, I shared some thoughts about where I have glimpsed God in my life recently. It was such a blessing to pause and consider the many ways I have felt God’s presence near.
I reflected on how God is revealed through every act of kindness, care, and inclusion I have experienced since arriving in Australia. I have glimpsed God in each invitation extended, in every dinner shared, every message of welcome, and every offer of help. Whether it was thoughtfully provided bed linens, a jar of homemade pickles offered with a smile, or being invited to view a room filled with projects lovingly crafted, each simple gesture revealed the tenderness of divine love.
It may seem easier to feel close to God in the grand moments of life, or in this case, in the breathtaking beauty of a sunset surrounded by nature’s splendour. Such experiences fill us with awe and lift our hearts in gratitude. Yet in the ordinary rhythm of daily life, God’s steady presence moves quietly, waiting to be noticed. When we pause with intention and gratitude, we can begin to sense the sacred in every warm greeting, friendly smile, and simple kindness that brightens an ordinary day. These small, often unnoticed moments of tangible care are God’s love made real.
As I continue visiting with people, congregations, and gatherings across this country, I continue to glimpse God in the warmth of welcome, in the courage of those who keep showing up, and in the hope that rises when we walk this journey together in new and exciting ways.
May we all keep our hearts open to the quiet ways God is revealed among us.
