A Living Faith by Meredith Carr

I visited the Drummoyne congregation on Sunday for a thoughtfully planned gathering that included Tai Chi practice, personal reflections, and shared lunch. It was a joy to meet members of the community, listen to their sacred stories and learn of the ways their faith has shaped their lives through the years.

I was especially moved by the stories of adventurous relocations and pivotal life moments, each one held with a deep and abiding sense of connection to Drummoyne, as if the spirit of the community travelled with them wherever life led. There is a beautiful thread of continuity in this community, with a respect for the past paired with a willingness to imagine new ways of being church together.

What I experienced on Sunday was a sincere and creative expression of faith, grounded in a desire to stay connected and responsive to the Spirit’s leading. It was a spiritual time of renewal, and I felt privileged to be part of it.

I was reminded once again of one of our Enduring Principles: Continuing Revelation. As a people of faith, we believe that God’s Spirit continues to speak into the life of the church, calling us to discern, adapt, and faithfully respond to the needs of our time. Continuing Revelation does not ask us to discard our past, but rather to allow our heritage to inform the new expressions of community, worship, and mission that are emerging. It invites us to remain open, to be curious, courageous, and willing to be transformed. I sensed that spirit of openness at Drummoyne, and it left me hopeful for all the ways God is still at work in and through this beloved community.
