Over the past week, I had the joy and privilege of visiting several congregations across our Mission Centre, and I continue to be moved by the spirit of grace and generosity that defines our church community.
I began my journey by sharing a meal with the Kingsgrove congregation. Their warmth and hospitality were immediately evident, and I was welcomed with open arms and genuine kindness. Around the table, stories and laughter flowed freely, a reminder of how sacred something as simple as a shared meal can be when offered with love.
Next, I visited the Taree congregation, where members continue to support those impacted by significant flooding earlier this year. Although the immediate crisis has passed, the effects are still being felt by many in the community. I witnessed the congregation’s faithful and generous response, as they look for ways to walk alongside neighbours who are still recovering. Their compassion and commitment are a powerful testimony to our calling to embody Christ’s love in real and lasting ways.
Finally, I traveled to Tuncurry to bring the Sunday message. Strong storms and heavy rains swept through the Forster area, bringing power outages and disruption. Concerned for everyone’s safety, the community quickly adapted when the Tiona chapel lost power. Yet the desire to gather remained strong, and we came together at the Tuncurry church for worship, fellowship, and another shared meal. Some braved dangerous conditions to attend. Others opened their homes to offer me accommodation. All came together with hearts wide open.
Along the way, I was privileged to hear the stories and experiences of so many faithful disciples. People shared their joys, their burdens, and their hopes for the future. These conversations were deeply moving and reminded me of the sacred trust we hold when we listen with love and presence.
The Enduring Principle of Grace and Generosity came alive in each community I visited, expressed not in words alone but through selfless action and heartfelt care. Meals were shared, plans were rearranged, doors were opened, and love was extended. I saw firsthand how grace overflows in moments of crisis and how generosity takes shape through welcome, hospitality, and resilience.
Thank you to all who made these visits possible. Your example continues to inspire and affirm the beauty of this faith community we call home.
With gratitude,
Meredith Carr
