Over the past couple of weeks, my social media has been filled with smiling faces, worship, crafts and games, meaningful discussions, and friendships. Here in Australia, children gathered at Young Peacemakers Holiday Program at Tiona and also at the Victorian Kids Area Gathering in Frankston. In the U.S., hundreds of teenagers are spending this week at Spectacular in Iowa, creating memories and friendships that I know from experience can shape a lifetime of faith.

As I looked through the photos, I found myself feeling grateful. Grateful for the children and young people who bring such joy and energy to our church. Grateful for the parents, grandparents, volunteers, and leaders who give their time to make these experiences possible. Every meaningful experience a child has in the life of the church exists because someone chose to make space for it.

Jesus welcomed children with open arms and reminded his disciples that the kingdom of God belongs to such as these (Mark 10:14). Children have a remarkable way of showing us what community can look like, from welcoming others and embracing new experiences to finding joy in simply being together.

When I think back on my own faith journey, some of the moments that shaped me most happened at camps and children's gatherings. They weren't memorable because everything was perfectly planned. They mattered because caring adults showed up. They listened, encouraged, laughed alongside us, and created places where we knew we belonged. Presence mattered far more than perfection.

As you read this week's stories, I hope you'll join me in giving thanks for everyone who continues to invest in the faith of our children and youth. And may we continue to notice the opportunities we all have, in ways big and small, to make room for young people to encounter God's love, build lasting friendships, and discover that they have a valued place in the life of our church.
