Like all things, Knit & Knatter at Tuncurry started from small beginnings, with a few ladies gathering each month to do exactly what the name suggests: knit and natter. We also crochet, sew, share conversations on a wide range of topics and build relationships with one another. We make blankets, beanies, slippers and scarves. We have donated our knitted goods to five of our local aged care facilities, as well as more recently to those affected by the floods on the Mid North Coast.
Our group has grown over time and it expanded again last year when a local schoolteacher, whose wedding I had conducted a few years ago, asked if she could bring along some of her students from the local high school. We, of course, welcomed them warmly. What has been truly beautiful is watching these girls come out of their shells and grow in confidence and creativity. Our ladies took them under their wings, teaching them to knit or crochet, encouraging them as they joined in making things for others. It has been a joy to witness the connections that have formed across generations.
Knit and Knatter is a simple, but worthwhile ministry in the lives of others.
