Where the Spirit Leads by Lara-Jane Stewart

The LEAD program is a new three-year formation and leadership initiative for adults in the Australia church who feel called to deepen their understanding of Community of Christ’s mission, scripture, history, and spiritual practices - and to explore how their unique gifts might serve that mission.

As part of the first LEAD cohort, I’ve found the experience so far to be deeply nourishing. Each year includes three dedicated retreats, and our most recent gathering - held online this past weekend - offered a rich time of learning, reflection, and spiritual exploration.

We were guided by wonderful teachers, including Kris Judd (USA), who led us through a beautiful session on prayer and spiritual formation. Her insights and teaching opened up new pathways for me in how I understand and practice prayer in my daily life. I came away especially inspired to return to the written word: to bless others through prayers written with intention and heart.

Ken Robinson (WA) also shared his decades of ministry and his deep care for the global church, reminding us of Australia’s unique contribution to Community of Christ’s broader story. His reflections on calling, priesthood, and the many ways we can serve were both grounding and empowering.

I’m so grateful to our wonderful facilitators, Lisa Yen, Gail Robinson and Kristie Woodward, our teachers Malcolm and June Stephenson, and our guest presenters for this weekend. This journey is gently reshaping me - growing my sense of call, my love for our faith community, and my desire to follow where the spirit is leading.
