Wingham once again hosted a beautiful Pleasant Sunday Afternoon on the Mid North Coast, enjoyed by more than 40 people.
This year’s theme was “Inspired by Nature,” which gave us an amazing array of songs to choose from. We all enjoyed a hymn sing featuring favourites such as “Trees of the Field,” “Sing of Colours,” and “In the Bulb There Is a Flower.” The Wingham congregation also sang “The Lord Is My Shepherd” in response to the Peace Prayer presented by Garry Boyd.
We were delighted to once again welcome the Manning Valley Christian Choir, who performed four lovely nature-related pieces. Contralto Jacquie Roetman performed “She Moved Through the Fair” a cappella, while soprano Ruth Crossman sang “All Good Gifts” and “Indescribable.” Jacquie and Ruth also joined together for a beautiful duet of “The Rose.”
Adding something a little different to the afternoon, concertina player Sandy Gray entertained us with four Irish songs on her 1850s concertina, including “Dun Lui Waterfall,” “The Linnetts Chorus,” and “The Beautiful Goldfinch.” It was simply wonderful.
Our youngest member and talented accompanist, Cameron Waugh, played and sang John Denver’s “The Garden Song,” while Robyn Rankin performed “Over the Rainbow” and “His Eye Is on the Sparrow.”
Of course, no Pleasant Sunday Afternoon would be complete without something delicious to share. The congregation once again shone with their culinary skills, presenting an amazing afternoon tea for everyone to enjoy.
The Blessings of Community were certainly part of this very special afternoon.
